Can I email GPX file to Map My Tracks?

Yes. Each user receives a personal email dropbox that you can email GPX files to. Each GPX file is automatically added your your personal activity log.

Can I use GPS devices from Velocitek, Garmin or Magellan on Map My Tracks?

Yes, you can upload and replay track activity created by devices from Velocitek, Garmin or Magellane. If fact, any GPS data logger that lets you export the track data in a GPX format. It’s not possible to display a live activity but you can upload the activity for replay, comparison and analysis. Most data logging devices can export the data in this format.

How do I upload a GPX data file into Map My Tracks?

First export the GPX data file from the GPS device then go to the your profile page on Map My Tracks to upload GPX files.

How do I show friends where I am?

We have a several ways to help show your activity to friends or colleagues. You can add a map to your blog, use your personal geoRSS feed, directly update your location on Fire Eagle, Twitter or FriendFeed and all of your own public tracks can also be viewed here at Map My Tracks or on Map My Tracks mobile.

How do I upload my track data to the web?

All track data is automatically uploaded as you track. There is no need to upload data after your activity.

Is there a free trial?

There’s no need for a free trial. Access to upload activities to Map My Tracks is free. Sign up now.

Does it work on my phone?

We make every effort to ensure that Map My Tracks works with as many mobile phones as possible. At present iPhone, Nokia, Blackberry, Sony Ericsson and some Samsung, Motorola, Siemens, Pansonic, Lenovo, HTC and LG phones are supported. This is not a complete list so if you are unsure if your phone will run Map My Tracks download the standard package and try it out.

How much data is used during live tracking?

A typical hour of live tracking will transfer between 100Kb to 200Kb of data. The speed you travel and the map zoom level affect the amount of data used during tracking. Zooming out or switching the map off will help to reduce the data transferred. 

I don’t want others to see where I am. Can I make a track private?

Of course. Each time you start tracking you have the option to make it private. Private tracks are only seen by you.

I don’t have a GPS-enabled phone. Can I still use Map My Tracks?

Yes you can. You can upload GPX files or connect Garmin devices to add activities to your profile.

Where can I get a GPS receiver?

There are lots of different Bluetooth GPS receivers are available. Ebay or Amazon both have a wide choice. Some phones already have internal GPS capababilites, in which case you are good to go once you have installed Map My Tracks Mobile.

What equipment do I need?

A web-enabled mobile phone with GPS and a data plan together with our app on your phone will get you started.
