A note from Nick Tatt, Founder of Map My Tracks
I’m excited to share something our team has been working on for months: Activity Insights, an AI-powered feature that gives every Map My Tracks user personalised feedback after their walks, rides, runs and other outdoor activities.
As both an app developer and a certified cycling coach, I’ve always believed that everyone deserves quality feedback about their activities, not just competitive athletes. Whether you’re walking to stay healthy, exploring new trails on weekends, or training for your next big event, you should understand what your body is doing and be able to celebrate your progress. We built Activity Insights on Map My Tracks to give that to everyone.
After every activity you track, or upload, Activity Insights analyses what you did: distance, pace, power, elevation, heart rate, weather, time of day, and compares it against your history to spot patterns and give you guidance that matters.
The feedback adapts to what you care about. Walking for general health and enjoyment? You’ll get encouragement about consistency, streaks, and the positive habits you’re building. Training for a gran fondo? You’ll see training load analysis and recovery guidance. The system speaks your language, whatever your goals.
Here’s what makes it powerful: the more you use it, the smarter it gets. Activity Insights learns your habits, recognises when you perform best, and figures out what motivates you. You might discover “You’ve walked every sunny Saturday this month—that’s a great habit!” or “Your Tuesday rides are consistently your strongest. Consider scheduling hard workouts then.”
Over the time I’ve been coaching cyclists I’ve found that the best guidance has never been about comparing you to others or pushing arbitrary standards. It’s about understanding your unique patterns, celebrating your progress, whatever that looks like for you, and giving you information that’s actually useful.
That’s what Activity Insights does. Someone building a daily walking routine deserves the same quality of feedback as someone training for their first marathon, just different feedback that matches what matters to them.
Activity Insights is available now to all Map My Tracks users - free and Plus subscribers. You’ll get insights after every activity you track. Plus subscribers can have insights automatically generated and emailed, which is great for keeping a record of your progress.
The feature works with activities recorded directly in the app and those imported from Garmin, Wahoo, Coros, and others, so you can get insights across all your tracking platforms.
This is just the beginning. We’re already working on weekly and monthly summaries, annual reviews (think Spotify Wrapped for your fitness), and more sophisticated pattern recognition.
I’m incredibly proud of what our small team has built. Activity Insights represents hundreds of hours of development, testing, and refinement, all focused on making quality feedback accessible to everyone.
If you’re already using Map My Tracks, update your app and take your next walk, ride, or run. Your first Activity Insight is waiting. If you’re new to Map My Tracks, download it free from the App Store or Google Play and get personalised feedback from day one.
Here’s to understanding your activities better, enjoying your time outdoors more, and moving forward, wherever you are in your journey.
