When I attempt to start “track” or “where am I” I usually never get past the message:

“Aquiring GPS

....Standby”

“where am I” worked once, but I can never get it going again.  I’ve tried rebootiing the device a couple times with no luck.

Hi cmcluckie, thanks for trying out Map My Tracks. We are aware of this problem on certain handsets are are working on getting a solution out there for you. What model do you use?

Has there been any development on this?  I have a BlackBerry 8130 Pearl 2 with GPS from Bell Canada and I get the same message. I almost ran down the battery yesterday waiting for it to come out of standby.

I haven’t heard anything yet - too bad, I would really like to get started with this.

Serioulsy, especially since Fire Eagle is getting alot of press and MapMyTracks features prominently as a recommended app.

Thanks for your interest in Map My Tracks and sorry for the delay.

We are working hard to resolve the issue with some blackberry handsets aquiring an initial GPS location and should have a solution soon.

I agree, Fire Eagle has really taken off and we believe that using Map My Tracks to share GPS locations is one of the easiest ways to use the service. That said, as you rightly point out, there are some issues we are aware of on a minority of handsets but rest assured that fixing these issues is our highest priority at the moment.

Please bear with us and we shall release an update shortly which will let blackberry users join the party.

I too, have a Blackberry 8330 (with Alltel) in the US, and it never gets past Standby. I know the internal GPS works as both Tele-Nav and Blackberry Maps find my location.

I’m eager to get a fix for MapMyTracks, as I use Brightkite a lot, and in conjunction with FireEagle, MapMyTracks would allow my location to be determined without my manual intervention each time.

same here with rogers in canada on 8310

I am too having the same problem on Blackberry Curve 8310 here in the UK. Telemap Navigator works along with Blackberry Maps.

Same issue with Blackberry 8830 on Bell Mobility (Canada).  Blackberry Maps and Google Maps work fine…

We’re aware of the problem that some Blackberry devices are suffering. As it happens we are close to releasing a version that should fix this problem. I expect it to be available within the next few days so keep an eye on the blog for details.

It’s been two months since this announcement, and I’ve re-downloaded the latest version I could find (no where on this site could I find the download - 1.3.1) and it’s the same version as before, so the issue is still there.
