Dear MPT Support,

I’ve found this software to be exactly what I need for my walks and off road tracks. But… I can’t make it to work.
Here’s where I’m standing:

- software have been installed correctly (non signed version) on my Sony Ericsson V640i;
- bluetooth gps have been found and acquired (and it works correctly with other applications);
- I can make the “Where Am I” function to work;
- but when starting a new track (and after the message “acquired GPS") all I get is a message on top of the screen saying “connecting” followed by “connection lost” with an exclamation mark and I can’t start a new track.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for the support.

Hi Throttleman, it looks like you have done everything just right. It sounds like the phone is having a hard time holding its connection with our server/internet. I presume this is not a one-off occurrence?

Can you confirm if you get an error message at the foot of the help page when this happens? To see any errors message press * and scroll to the bottom of the screen.

Thank you Nick for the prompt reply.

Yes, it’s not a one-off occurrence. It happens every time and I’ve never been able to start a track.
I’ve just did what you said and the result message was:

“Parse Exception: unexpected end of input”.

Forgot to say that my BT GPS is a BlueNEXT.

Thank you again,
Hugo

The BlueNEXT GPS is good to use with MMT. Can you confirm which phone network you use? Also, where are you in the world?

We’re pretty sure that the issue relates to the internet connection. One way to test to see if your phone can connect to our server is to change your username to one that is wrong. Once you have changed the username try to track. In theory you should receive an error message on screen that confirms the user details are unauthorised.

If you do so this error message it confirms that your phone has successfully connected and communicated with our server. This should hopefully help to identify the problem.

Dear Nick,
I’m in Portugal and using Vodafone.
I’ve just did what you’ve told me to (changing the username to one that’s not correct) and the error was the same - “Parse exception: unexpected end of input”.

So it seems that I can’t even connect to the server. But… I still can receive the map image from “Where Am I”. So there’s a connection made somewhere.
Is there another way to test and see if I can connect my phone to MMT server?

Thank you again for your great help.

Hi Hugo,
The way that the ‘where am I’ and live tracking connects to our server is different. I’m afraid that it looks like Vodafone in Portugal doesn’t allow us to make the connection in the way that it needs to which means that you won’t be able to track.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

I was afraid of that, Nick. Cheers.

If I find a way to make it work I’ll post it here. :)

Hey just wanted to mention that I seem to be getting this error too.

Phone: Sony Ericsson Z750
Carrier: Cingular/ATT
GPS: Internal
APN: wap.cingular

Can anyone confirm if they have or have not gotten this to work with this type of a setup?

I can get the GPS to work fine with tracker and google maps, but the issue is the same connection lost error when trying to track.

Thanks,
Shawn

[EDIT]
Just a quick addition, I have tried the change the username bit and it does prompt me saying that it is in valid. When I get the disconnected error it just tries to reconnect. I checked at the bottom of the help page (using the *) and there is not an error message. I have tried this using both the 3G and the 2G network.
