Blackberry users rejoice - new version available

17/02/2009 | Posted by Nick | Comments: (2) | Permalink

We are pleased to announce the release of Map My Tracks version 1.4.3, which is available and now more compatible than ever for Nokia, Blackberry, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and others. This version release is relevant to users of all phones but particularly useful for Blackberry users.

Amongst various improvements and minor bug fixes comes improved handling of Blackberry devices with internal GPS. Some users informed us that their Blackberry wasn’t finding their GPS position, or that the initial acquisition of their position took a long time. As a result, we’ve been working hard to identify the handsets affected and iron out the problems.

You can download the most recent version or use your mobile browser to install the files over the air at www.mapmytracks.com/install.

For optimum performance on Blackberry devices, set up the network access and GPS permissions. This avoids annoying pop up dialog boxes when you start to track.
Navigate to Options->Advanced Options->Applications->Map My Tracks and set the relevant permissions to “Allow”.

This can also be done for S60 phones. This is typically available at Dashboard > Settings > Data mgr > App mgr > Map My Tracks > Options > Open. Here you can set the default access points and the connection permissions. This is quite useful when using Map My Tracks at an event as it avoids having to authorise a connection for a second time.

Downloaded latest version to my Blackberry 8820 and now it can NOT find a satellite/GPS.  Tonights workout did not get recorded and it wiped out my battery to boot “searching” for over an hour.  The only way I could get it to stop was to cut the phone off and remove the battery.
This stinks 1 week before my big push.  Totally disappointed. The version I had on my phone worked fine.
